Acupressure

Here’s a quick excerpt
Based on the same principles as acupuncture, acupressure helps resolve blockages along the 12 meridians, or energy pathways, in the body. When the energy, or qi, can’t get through, we suffer from illness. In acupuncture, a very fine needle is inserted at specific points along the meridians to help the energy flow uninterrupted again, thereby restoring the patient’s health. In acupressure, the practitioner uses a thumb or other fingers to apply pressure to those same points.

BABY LYING IN A BREECH POSITION?

Here’s a quick excerpt
Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment which can help turn babies who are lying in a breech position.
Currently in Australia, the majority of women whose babies are in breech position face having a Caesarean section delivery.
Acupuncture involves the superficial insertion of very fine, single use sterile needles to specific reactive points on the body which encourage the baby into a more optimal, head down position.
The efficacy of the treatment is enhanced by a specialised therapy called ‘moxibustion’. This involves applying compressed Mugwort herb as a heat source to the acupuncture points.
Skilled practitioners have a high success rate in turning breech babies, enabling those clients to avoid a Caesarean section. Treatment should be started if your baby is in breech passed week 35.
Many babies turn after only one session, typically within 2 days of treatment. Sometimes up to 3 treatments are needed.

NEED A NUDGE GETTING INTO LABOUR?

noreply@blogger.com (Damo) wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment to help initiate contractions and bring on labour in women who are full-term (40 weeks), ready and waiting.
Acupuncture involves the superficial insertion of very fine, sterile, single use needles which stimulate specific reactive points on the body, scientifically shown  to help labour  commence naturally.
Acupuncture is a less invasive, more gentle alternative for women wanting to try to avoid a medical induction.
Acupuncture allows the body to go into labour more gradually and naturally than the medical methods which are very effective but at the same time tend to be very confronting and often cause the sudden and severe onset of painful contractions.
The average time from having a treatment to the onset of labour can range from just a few hours to one day.  Sometimes a second treatment is needed. The ideal time to have acupuncture is at the beginning of the 40th week.

REVIEW: WIZARD OF GORE (2007)

Title: Wizard of Gore (2007)
Starring Kip Pardue, Crispin Glover, Bijou Phillips, Jeffrey Combs, Brad Dourif and The Suicide Girls
Produced by Open Sky Entertainment and Sick-O-Scope
Written by Zach Chassler
Directed by Jeremy Kasten

I saw the trailer for this movie the day it came to DVD and was so insanely excited I went out and rented it that day. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t get any better than Crispin Glover (Willard, Back to the Future), Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator) and Brad Dourif (the voice of Chucky from the Child’s Play series) gracing the screen in the same flick. These three are not only horror movie legends, but they’re cult film legends, which is what makes a movie like this so enjoyable to watch.
Edmund Bigelow (Kip Pardue) runs a nightly newspaper. One night, while out with his girlfriend, Maggie (Bijou Phillips), they attend a magic show called “The Wizard of Gore: Montag the […]

Well, I didn’t mean to wait a whole week before posting again, but I guess that’s become my habit of late. First off, thank you to everyone who commented on my last post. Your comments have helped me find a bit of balance this last week and touched my heart so much. If I said nothing but “thank you” for the rest of my life, it would be insufficient. You are amazing and have so much wisdom - I’m so grateful that you take the time to share it with me.
I had acupuncture on Tuesday and again on Saturday, and she worked on some emotional points which really helped a huge amount. When she did it on Tuesday, I was still very much in turmoil, and when those needles went into my wrists and between my eyes, it really hurt. But I let some more tears come while I was lying […]

Why can’t I conceive?

Here’s a quick excerpt
This is the question.  Has this question been answered for you?  Have you prayed about it?  There is a reason why you have not conceived.  You may not understand what that reason is, but there is a reason.
Maybe it is just not the right egg which in turn will produce the right child for you.  Maybe you are not at the right place in your life to be this parent you are intended to be.  Perhaps our world is changing and there are just too many babies already born, and your purpose is to adopt on of these wonderful children who need you.
Whatever the case may be — you have a purpose.  Understanding that purpose will help you to feel better about who you are.
Regardless of how you were brought up, or what your believes are — there is a reason why your life has taken this direction.
At Ancient Arts […]

Research or Marketing? Merck’s Use of Seeding Trials - plus, New Acupuncture Study

JR wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
Just when we thought we’d heard it all…
A 1999 Merck & Co. study of its since-withdrawn painkiller Vioxx, touted to participating doctors and patients as meant to show whether Vioxx caused fewer stomach problems than another drug, was primarily a stealth marketing strategy, researchers report.
The true purpose was to get lots of doctors and patients in the habit of using Vioxx just in time for its launch, according to doctors who uncovered internal Merck memos discussing the strategy behind the study, called ADVANTAGE. They did so while reviewing roughly a million Merck documents for plaintiffs’ lawyers preparing for trials in Vioxx lawsuits.

This kind of stealth marketing is known as a “seeding trial.” In an interview with Dr. Daniel Carlat for the Carlat Psychiatry Blog, Dr. Kevin Hill defines such a trial as “a study that is designed to appear as though it is answering a scientific question but whose true […]

Why I don’t love public transport

Here’s a quick excerpt
It’s my first day of holiday and we are heading to Lapland on Wednesday morning. The weather is shitty and cold. And of course we both catched the flu while attending an outdoor concert on Friday and now our apartment is full of sneezed papers and empty mugs we’ve been drinking hot black currant juice from. I’m actually feeling much better already but DH doesn’t look so good at the moment snoring on the couch I visited the acupuncturist today and he put some herbal medicine on my face and forehead when I told him I caught the flu. And it seems to be working. I don’t know which spots he stimulated this time but I was like macaroni after the treatment and been really tired the whole afternoon.
This time he held his practice in a different place than usual and I had to take the metro to city […]
